Internal Audit Week

Whereas, Internal auditors worldwide are viewed as the right arm of management, providing analyses, evaluation, recommendations, counsel, and information regarding the activities they review; and,

Whereas, Internal auditing is an independent and objective assurance activity designed to add value and improve an organization’s operations; and,

Whereas, Internal auditors help an organization accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes; and,

Whereas, The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) is an international professional association representing more than 117,000 internal auditors in business, industry, government, and education in more that 100 countries; and,

Whereas, The Institute of Internal Auditors has established and issued the “Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing”; and,

Whereas, 2006 marks the 65th Anniversary of the Institute of Internal Auditors, which continues to serve not only the members and certified internal auditors in Michigan, but the internal auditing profession as a whole; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of May 15, 2006, as Internal Audit Week in Michigan.
