Whereas, The financial well-being of American citizens is linked to the nation's economic health; and,
Whereas, Improved financial literacy results in a higher standard of living and more stable communities; and,
Whereas, Becoming financially literate is a long-term process that for many people requires assistance from institutions outside of the home; and,
Whereas, In times of rapidly changing technology, consumers have many choices about how to manage their financial affairs; and,
Whereas, Educational and financial institutions, government entities, and community-based organizations can work together to help consumers make informed choices about their finances; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of April 20, 2008, as Money Smart Month in Michigan, and I encourage all citizens to take advantage of programs and activities geared toward financial management and prosperity all year long.
