Day of Hope

Whereas, The most precious and valuable asset of our state is our children, and the future of our society depends largely on the emotional, physical, and intellectual growth of these vulnerable individuals; and,

Whereas, A safe and healthy environment that is free from abuse and neglect is vital to the growth and development of our youngest citizens; and,

Whereas, Michigan has made the commitment to protect its children from these tragic acts that can destroy the lives of children, families, and the communities in which they live; and,

Whereas, Founded in 1959, Childhelp USA is one of the largest and oldest national non-profit organizations dedicated to meeting the physical, emotional, educational, and spiritual needs of abused and neglected children; and,

Whereas, A "Day of Hope" gives the people of Michigan the opportunity to recognize the tragedy of child abuse and mobilize businesses, the faith community, non-profit organizations, volunteers, and citizens to commit their energy and resources to assist abused and neglected children; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 2, 2008, as a Day of Hope in Michigan.
