Whereas, The beauty of Michigan's lakes and streams, rolling farmlands, plentiful fruit orchards, and tree-lined streets contribute to the quality of life in our Great Lakes State and attract tourists from every corner of the world; and,
Whereas, While maintaining this natural beauty is no easy task, thousands of Michigan volunteers continually strive to keep litter off our streets, to paint and renovate old buildings, plant trees and flowers, and build nature trails to enhance our communities; and,
Whereas, Each year, Keep Michigan Beautiful, Incorporated recognizes these volunteers and sets aside the months of April and May as a time to encourage spring clean-up and beautification projects throughout the state; and,
Whereas, It is important that all citizens take an active role during these clean-up days to preserve and enhance Michigan's environment; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 1 through May 31, 2008, as Clean-Up Days in Michigan, and I encourage all citizens to help keep Michigan beautiful.
