Whereas, By observing Michigan Dance Day, dancers across the state of Michigan will raise the public's awareness of the importance of the role of dance in American societal, cultural, and educational communities; and,
Whereas, Through numerous performances throughout the country, dance exhibitions educate the public on the inherent benefits of dance in our society; and,
Whereas, Dancing is a great body conditioner and form of aerobic exercise as it tones the body while increasing flexibility and balance; and,
Whereas, Dancing serves as a stress reliever and provides the ongoing challenge of learning while increasing self-confidence and pride; and,
Whereas, From the beginning of recorded history, dance has served as a meaningful venue for communication and continues to do so in modern day; and,
Whereas, Michigan Dance Day and its performances offer a fantastic opportunity to share with others the joy that comes from dancing and performing and to stress the importance of the performing arts to schools and communities everywhere; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 19, 2008, as Michigan Dance Day.
