Michigan Week

Whereas , Michigan achieved statehood on January 26, 1837, becoming the nation's 26th state; and,

Whereas , Michigan residents have, decade after decade, demonstrated the skill, innovation and resilience that have earned our state a place of respect and distinction on both the national and global stage; and,

Whereas , Michigan continues to be blessed with natural wonders, colorful seasons, the world's longest freshwater shoreline, exciting recreational pursuits, beautiful state parks, and the Great Lakes; and,

Whereas , Our state boasts an abundance of cultural assets, from museums, historic sites and art festivals to theaters and libraries, that help to tell Michigan's proud story and make our communities distinctive and appealing; and,

Whereas , Each year since 1954, the people of this state have observed Michigan Week as a time to embrace, explore and celebrate everything that sets our state apart as an ideal place to live, work and raise a family; and now therefore be it,

Resolved , That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of May 17, 2008, as Michigan Week, under the theme, "Great Lakes, Great Traditions" and I invite citizens and visitors to explore and celebrate all that "pure" Michigan has to offer.
