Whereas, Social workers give a voice to those who are frequently unheard, providing
the majority of Michigan’s mental health services; and,
Whereas, Opening the doors of access and opportunity for everyone, social workers
create social change for those of greatest need; and,
Whereas, Social workers use their education, professional training and commitment
to strengthen individuals, families and communities; and,
Whereas, Social workers are dedicated advocates working to preserve the rights
of others; and,
Whereas, In direct practice, administration, education, research or policy
development, social workers promote social justice for all; and now therefore
be it
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of Michigan, proclaim
March 2003 as Professional Social Work Month and call upon all citizens to support
social workers and the social work profession in recognition of their commitment
and dedication to individuals, families and communities through legislative
advocacy, service delivery, research and education.
