Whereas, Civic engagement within the current generation of college and university
students is approached in a different manner than that of previous generations;
and,
Whereas, College and university students provide more community service than
any other generation; and,
Whereas, By providing community service, college and university students discover
the needs of our society and search for alternative solutions; and,
Whereas, College and university students have shown more apathy toward the
democratic process than previous generations; and,
Whereas, College and university students need more encouragement and support
in becoming more politically active citizens; and,
Whereas, The 2004 observance of Raise Your Voice: A Month of Action promotes
and celebrates statewide civic engagement by college and university students;
and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan,
do hereby proclaim the period of February 15 through March 20, 2004, as Raise
Your Voice: A Month of Action, and I urge all citizens to recognize the positive
impact college and university students make in Michigan.
