Whereas, The Grand Rapids National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Chapter #194 has for 31 years, the Detroit NAWIC Chapter #138 has for 32 years, the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek Chapter #302 has for 21 years and the Lansing NAWIC Chapter #177 has for 33 years distinguished themselves as the voice of women in construction in the state of Michigan; and,
Whereas, The work done by these chapters has benefited their cities and state through community development and educational programs; and,
Whereas, These chapters have unceasingly promoted the employment and advancement of women in the construction industry; and,
Whereas, The construction community, represented by the National Association of Women in Construction, has been a driving force in fostering community development through renovation and beautification projects, promotion of skilled trades careers and a positive vision of the future; and,
Whereas, These chapters have sought to achieve successful results for their cities and state and surrounding areas in a cooperative spirit with other organizations; and now therefore be it
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of March 2, 2005, as Women in Construction Week in Michigan. I am proud to recognize NAWIC #194 Grand Rapids, NAWIC #138 Detroit, NAWIC #302 Kalamazoo/Battle Creek and NAWIC #177 Lansing and their many dedicated volunteers for their steadfast work on behalf of and in support of women in construction.
