Whereas, Philately, or stamp collecting, is both a recreational and educational experience for many Michigan residents; and,
Whereas, Through stamp collecting individuals can gain a better understanding and appreciation for the culture, tradition, and history of nations around the world; and,
Whereas, Numerous stamp clubs are located throughout Michigan and members of these clubs enjoy sharing their collections with others so that they may also benefit from this intriguing hobby; and,
Whereas, During this observance, the West Suburban Stamp Club will hold its 37th Annual Stamp Exhibition and Bourse at Plymouth Central High School, where exhibitors will display their collections and compete for the Grand Award, Mayflower medals and other recognized achievements; and now therefore be it
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of April 23, 2006, as Stamp Week in Michigan and I encourage the citizens of our Great Lakes State to recognize the educational and recreational benefits derived from stamp collecting and the contributions made by stamp clubs throughout our state.
