Whereas, The Community Action mission is “Helping People Help Themselves,” which is accomplished through a variety of programs and services to help their clients become self-sufficient, productive members of society; and,
Whereas, Over 1.5 million residents are served each year by Michigan’s 30 Community Action Agencies through such programs as Head Start, Home Weatherization, Senior Services, Emergency Food, Crisis Intervention, and other emergency services; and,
Whereas, Making up the largest network of social services outside of state government, Community Action Agencies play a crucial role in welfare reform; and,
Whereas, The State of Michigan is pleased to recognize the commitment and dedication of the Michigan Community Action Agency Association for improving the quality of life for all our citizens; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 24, 2006, as Michigan Community Action Day, and I encourage all citizens to acknowledge the significant contributions made by Community Action Agencies.
