Dear Colleagues:
A month ago, I charged my cabinet members with finding creative solutions to help you deal with the surge in gas prices while continuing to provide citizens great service. This will also strengthen our efforts to make the State of Michigan a great place to do great work. Today, I am proud to report that each of our departments has submitted a plan to begin offering telecommuting options to eligible employees. In addition, agencies will be expanding the availability of compressed workweeks and other scheduling alternatives.
These new alternative work scheduling options offer exciting possibilities to help you manage busy schedules and high fuel prices.
By the end of this week, you can expect to be contacted by your department director or supervisor. They will provide you with information explaining your department's process for requesting an alternative work scheduling option.
We recognize these options will not be appropriate or available for every employee. And while the where and when of how we do our work may change, our commitment to Michigan's citizens remains the same. Whatever we do, the quality of the service we provide to taxpayers must be maintained.
To find out more about which options may be available to you, contact your supervisor or visit the Office of the State Employer intranet site at http://csintranet.state.mi.us/aws . Please note that you will only be able to access this site if you are connected to the state network.
In the coming months, we will work diligently to make this transition as smooth as possible. Through our shared commitment to integrity, excellence, inclusion, and teamwork, I know we can take these important next steps together.
Sincerely,
Jennifer M. Granholm
Governor
