Keli Edmonds: A Day in the Life

Keli Edmonds

What happens every other Thursday and sometimes may seem the only reason you dragged yourself out of bed (not that you don’t love your job)…PAYDAY. Ever wonder who is instrumental in making payday happen?  Meet the latest “Day in the Life” feature, Keli Edmonds.  Keli is a Transactions Specialist for the Department of Management and Budget (DMB). In an agreement between DMB and DIT, she shares her services with our department.

Keli reviews, changes, certifies, and releases timesheets for half of the DIT employees. Besides payroll, Keli processes a wide range of requests, which include: orientations for new hires, entering transactions in HRMN for job changes, promotions, demotions, hires, transfers, step increases, departures, medical leaves/layoffs, waived rights leaves, plan A/C, performance reviews, time accrual changes, gross pay adjustments, deductions, EFT’s, history comments, working out of class payments, FMLA plans and accruals, prior military service hours, DCDS changes from prior pay periods and anything else that may cross her desk.

Keli enjoys interacting with others and making a positive difference in someone's day. “I’m very outgoing and like to communicate, so in this line of work I get to do a lot of that. Being able to inform employees of pay increases, promotions and any news that is positive is very rewarding. Unfortunately in most cases, employees only call Human Resources because something is wrong and they are unhappy. I try my best to bring something positive out of the situation and ask that clients be considerate, respectable and patient”. She always goes out of her way to serve the client. One negative to the position is that she rarely knows who she is speaking with or emailing, which is why Keli is being featured on Tech Talk, so DIT employees can at least put a name with a face.

A “good” day for Keli is knowing she turned a negative situation into something positive, making someone smile even though they’re really trying not to. She is always looking for ways to get employees involved and increase employee morale.

Keli has worked for the state for over five years, the last two with DMB/DIT. She has also worked in the Department of Corrections. Away from work, Keli spends her time with her two sons, Blake and Zac, boyfriend Brian, and a Miniature Schnauzer, Sammy Jack. Keli enjoys camping, concerts, golfing, boating, NASCAR and Hot Rod/sports cars. Keli recently participated in a 4200 car Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour, which started in Wisconsin and ended in Florida.

Now that you have been acquainted with Keli, she encourages you to stop by and introduce yourselves, she would appreciate it. Keli is located on the second floor of the Lewis Cass building in downtown Lansing.
