Whereas, Unlike other immune deficiencies, PIDs are caused by genetic defects in the immune system; and,

Whereas, There are more than 70 types of PID diseases, each with varying symptoms; and,

Whereas, Many people living with PID diseases must undergo therapy their entire life including intravenous gamma globulin infusions (IVIG), antibiotic therapy, or bone marrow transplants; and,

Whereas, Approximately 25,000 Michigan residents suffer from a PID disease; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of April 17, 2005, as Primary Immune Deficiency Awareness Week in Michigan.
