Whereas, By observing National Dance Week, dancers across the United States are served well by raising the public’s awareness to the importance of their role in American societal, cultural and educational communities; and,
Whereas, Through numerous performances throughout the country, dance exhibitions educate the public on the inherent benefits of the presence of dance in our society; and,
Whereas, Physically, dancing is a great body conditioner and form of aerobic exercise; it tones the body while increasing flexibility and balance; and,
Whereas, Mentally, dancing serves as stress reliever, and provides the ongoing challenge of learning while increasing self-confidence and pride; and,
Whereas, From the beginning of recorded history, dance has served as a meaningful venue for communication and continues to do so in modern day; and,
Whereas, National Dance Week and its performances are a fantastic opportunity to share with others the joy that comes from dancing and performing and to stress the importance of the performing arts to schools and the communities everywhere; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of April 22, 2005, as Dance Week in Michigan.
