Parents Without Partners Week

Whereas, Parents Without Partners provides single parents and their children with an opportunity for enhancing personal growth, self-confidence, and sensitivity toward others by offering an environment for support, friendship, and the exchange of parenting techniques; and,

 

Whereas, Founded in 1957, by two single parents, Jim Egleson and Jacqueline Bernard, Parents Without Partners was formed to provide a mutual support organization for parents who felt isolated from society because of their martial status; and,

 

Whereas, Parents Without Partners encompasses thousands of members in the United States and Canada and are from all walks of life, representing a kaleidoscope of occupations, interests, income brackets, and educational attainment; and,

 

Whereas, With a 65 percent to 35 percent female to male ratio and members ages ranging from 18 to 80, Parents Without Partners provides it members with educational and family and adult social and recreational programs to provide support of the single parent and their children; and now therefore be it,

 

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of November 5, 2005, as Parents Without Partners Week in Michigan.
