Change a Light Day

Whereas, Energy efficiency is important to our state because it saves consumers and businesses money, and helps protect the environment by lessening greenhouse gas emissions and reducing air pollution; and,

Whereas, By taking the ‘Energy Star Change a Light Pledge’ citizens of Michigan have the opportunity to both save energy and help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by switching to energy efficient lighting products in their homes; and,

Whereas, If every home in Michigan made this one change, our state would save more than 303,988,578 million kWh of energy, the equivalent of preventing the greenhouse gas emissions from more than 38,689 million cars, and saving more than $25,839,029 million dollars in energy costs; and,

Whereas, Michigan is proud to do our part in this nationwide effort to promote energy efficiency and environmental stewardship by encouraging every household to change a single light; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim November 1, 2005, as Energy Star Change a Light, Change the World Day.
