Whereas, It is an honor and a privilege to welcome Larry Foote home to Detroit as he competes with the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XL; and,

Whereas, While attending Pershing High School, Larry competed as a strong safety, tight end, and linebacker and was a PrepStar Magazine High School All-American selection, adding All-State honors as a senior, and was rated the #2 player on the Detroit Free Press “Fab 50 List”; and,

Whereas, After high school, Larry pursued football at the University of Michigan and earned accolades for his play including: All-American first-team selection by Football News, All-Big Ten Conference first-team and Defensive Player of the Year, recipient of the Roger Zatkoff Award, Semi-finalist for the Dick Butkus Award, Football News’ Defensive Player of the Year Award, and a Lombardi and Bronko Nagurski Award candidate; and,

Whereas, In 2001, Larry entered the NFL draft and was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers, and following his rookie season has begun to create a name for himself on the special and defensive teams; and,

Whereas, This is the second Super Bowl for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 26 years, and the first for Larry Foote, an honor as he gets to play for the championship in front of a home crowd; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim February 2, 2006, as Larry Foote Day in Michigan.  I offer my best to Larry and the Pittsburgh Steelers on their Super Bowl appearance.
