Whereas, Professional athletes and the organizations for which they play can work to lead the way to building a better tomorrow for those who face familiar challenges they themselves once faced; and,
Whereas, At Ferguson Academy for Young Women, every life touched is actually two, as opportunity, hope and care are given to families, not just individuals; and,
Whereas, During the 10 day period of May 9 – May 18, 2006, Cash For Kids Charity, WNBA Detroit Shock players, coaches and business staff, Pistons-Palace Foundation, corporate partners, volunteers, media members, and community members create a state-of-the-art resource center and perform other needed improvements for the Ferguson Academy for Young Women; and,
Whereas, Experience teaches us that proper role models, guidance, and mentoring, combined with adequate learning materials, multiply chances of future success, happiness and quality of life; and,
Whereas, Teamwork, hard work, and determination, can be channeled into something wonderful for those who need it most; and
Whereas, Positive, comfortable learning environments are vital to our future as a caring and productive state and nation; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 9-18, 2006, as Cash for Kids and WNBA Detroit Shock 10 Days of Renovating Days in Michigan in honor of the Women’s National Basketball Association’s 10 Years of Caring.
