Pick up America Day

Whereas, Pollution from litter endangers our air, land, and water across the United States; and,

Whereas, Our future environmental protection requires the education of all our citizens from children to adults; and,

Whereas, By focusing on litter clean up, Michigan can meet the challenges of having healthy communities, clean watersheds, efficient government, and competitive businesses; and,

Whereas, Pick up America Day is an opportunity for government to join forces with business, industry, environmental groups, community organizations, and the citizens of Michigan to ensure a prosperous and sustainable future; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim August 1, 2006, as Pick up America Day in Michigan, and encourage all citizens to join in this observance and incorporate litter pick up into your everyday activities.
