Whereas, The Constitution of the United States of America secures the promise of liberty for all Americans and embodies the principles of limited government in a republic dedicated to rule by law; and,
Whereas, September 17, 2006, marks the two hundred and nineteenth anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention; and,
Whereas, This anniversary of the Constitution provides a historic opportunity for all Americans to reflect on the rights and privileges of citizenship incorporated within its framework, and to learn about and celebrate the achievements of the framers of our Constitution throughout the year; and,
Whereas, Our reflection on the past provides an occasion to rededicate ourselves to our country and to support and defend our Constitution; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim September 18, 2006, as Constitution Day in the State of Michigan, and urge all citizens to participate in patriotic activities commemorating this special occasion.
