Ballroom Dance Week

Whereas, The United States Amateur Ballroom Dancers Association (USABDA) is a nationwide organization catering to thousands of volunteers who love ballroom dancing and profit from the social and health benefits ballroom dancing has to offer; and,

Whereas, Ballroom dancing creates opportunities for social networking and for singles of all ages to meet other singles in a safe and healthy environment; and,

Whereas, Physically, dancing is a great body conditioner and form of aerobic exercise as it tones the body while increasing flexibility and balance; and,

Whereas, Mentally, dancing serves as a stress reliever and provides the ongoing challenge of learning while increasing self-confidence and pride; and,

Whereas, Appealing to dancers of all ages and abilities, ballroom dancing gives participants an invaluable opportunity to develop their talent, enjoy rewarding social and recreational activities, and improve their health; and,

Whereas, There are USABDA chapters all over the United States including one in Kalamazoo, Michigan; and,

Whereas, The local chapters of USABDA work towards the recognition of ballroom dancing as an art form, a lifetime recreational activity, and an Olympic sport; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of September 24, 2006, as Ballroom Dance Week in Michigan.
