Whereas, In December 2004, the Kresge Foundation issued a challenge to the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History to obtain 70,000 paid admissions and 20,000 current museum members by June 30, 2006; and,
Whereas, The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History has exceeded the requirements of the Kresge Foundation and obtained more than 76,000 paid admissions and 24,000 current members; and,
Whereas, The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History recognized that this accomplishment could not have occurred without the tremendous support of the citizens of Michigan; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim September 17, 2006, as A Day of Gratitude, saluting the valuable contributions of the citizens of Michigan to the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.
