Whereas, Auto related crimes erode the economic security and overall quality of life of Michigan’s residents; and,
Whereas, Since 1985, Help Eliminate Auto Theft (HEAT) has successfully empowered Michigan’s residents to fight auto theft in their neighborhoods by confidentially providing the authorities information about auto-related crimes; and,
Whereas, By calling, 1(800) 242-HEAT, residents have helped HEAT recover more than $40 million in stolen property throughout the state; and,
Whereas, HEAT is funded by the Michigan auto insurance industry and its tip line is monitored by the Michigan State Police Criminal Investigation Section, which directs tip information to appropriate police agencies throughout the state; and now there for be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of October 24, 2006, as Turn up the HEAT Week in Michigan.
