Diversity Awareness Month

Whereas, The contributions of diverse individuals and families define Michigan's character and strength; and,

Whereas, Thousands of men, women, and children from different countries, races, and religious backgrounds have settled in Michigan; and,

Whereas, Designated months recognize the important contributions from diverse segments of our population; and,

Whereas, Multiculturalism helps bridge differences and achieve common goals in our work places, schools, and communities; and,

Whereas, Diversity in thought and perspective strengthens our communities; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim October 2006, as Diversity Awareness Month.
