Whereas, Primary Immune Deficiency (PID) is a condition in which part of the immune system is missing or is not properly functioning; and,
Whereas, Unlike other immune deficiencies, PIDs are caused by genetic defects in the immune system; and,
Whereas, There are more than 70 types of PID diseases, each with varying symptoms; and,
Whereas, Many people living with PID diseases must undergo therapy their entire lives, including intravenous gamma globulin infusions (IVIG), antibiotic therapy or bone marrow transplants; and,
Whereas, Approximately 25,000 Michigan residents suffer from a PID disease; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 2007, as Primary Immune Deficiency Awareness Month in Michigan.
