Youth Service Days

Whereas, Michigan's youth make considerable contributions to their communities throughout the State of Michigan every day of the year; and,

Whereas, The skills young people acquire through their service will remain with them their whole lives; and,

Whereas, Millions of young people around the world are participating in youth service projects this year as part of the 18th annual National & Global Youth Service Day; and,

Whereas, By relating academic activities to real-life experiences, service-learning improves workplace skills and enhances personal development among young people; and,

Whereas, The State of Michigan considers its youth a vital community asset; and,

Whereas, National Youth Service Day is a public awareness and education campaign that highlights the contributions that young people make to their communities; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 20-22, 2007, as Youth Service Days in Michigan.
