Whereas, Public bus drivers in transit agencies throughout the State of Michigan possess a strong commitment and dedication to providing safe transportation to millions of our state's citizens; and,
Whereas, Many Michigan residents, including seniors, persons with disabilities and children rely on public transit bus drivers for transportation to work, school, medical appointments, shopping and other activities; and,
Whereas, Efficient, dependable, safe and accessible transit services greatly improve the quality of life for many Michigan residents; and,
Whereas, On July 11, 2007, the Isabella County Transportation Commission, the Michigan Association of Transportation Systems, the Michigan Public Transit Association, Hoekstra Transportation/El Dorado National, Q'Straint, Inc., Holland Bus/Glaval Bus, Mid-West Transit Equipment, A.C. Carrier and the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe will sponsor the 32nd Annual Michigan Small-Bus Roadeo in Mt. Pleasant to recognize and honor public transit bus drivers working in urban, rural, and specialized services transportation systems across our state; and now therefore be it
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of Michigan do hereby proclaim July 11, 2007, as Public Transit Bus Driver Day in Michigan and I encourage all citizens to join me in saluting the dedicated service of Michigan's public transit bus drivers.
