Whereas, Michigan consistently ranks among the top ten of the most overweight states; and,
Whereas, The economic impact of physical inactivity in 2007 is projected to be $12.65 billion; and,
Whereas, Daily physical activity can prevent heart disease, certain cancers and type 2 diabetes; and,
Whereas, Daily physical activity boosts energy levels, helps manage stress and can improve overall quality of life; and,
Whereas, Each Michiganian who makes a personal commitment to daily physical activity has the potential to positively impact the physical and fiscal health of our state; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 2007, as Michigan Fitness Month. I encourage all citizens to recognize the importance of physical activity in their life and make a commitment to incorporate regular physical activity into their lifestyles.
