Whereas, Cancer is the 2nd leading cause of death in Michigan; and,
Whereas, More than 10 million people in the United States are currently living with cancer; and,
Whereas, By uniting people affected by cancer to raise awareness of education, prevention, screening and early detection efforts, we gain strength in the fight against cancer in Michigan; and,
Whereas, More than 600,000 Americans are expected to die from cancer this year with a cost of more than $200 billion for treatment; and,
Whereas, LIVESTRONG Day exemplifies the spirit of people living with cancer, survivors, caregivers, friends, family, physicians, nurses, social workers and researchers throughout Michigan; and,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 16, 2007, as LIVESTRONG Day.
