Baton Twirling Week

Whereas, The baton twirling movement has affected the lives of American girls and boys, now with nearly one-half million active participants; and,

 

Whereas, Baton twirling has been instrumental in building the confidence and character of young people, and has provided guidance and training that also enhances the development of each athlete's character; and,


Whereas
, The art of baton twirling is one of the largest beneficial movements for adolescent girls; and,

 

Whereas, Baton twirling plays an important part in children's hospitals as a unique and effective method of physical therapy; and,

 

Whereas, Champion twirlers from across the United States will gather at the University of Notre Dame from July 17-21, 2007, to conduct a colorful youth pageant called "America's Youth on Parade"; and now therefore be it,

 

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of July 17, 2007, as Baton Twirling Week in Michigan.
