Whereas, With nearly 49 million small businesses in the United States representing an estimated 99.7 percent of the businesses in the country, small and medium-sized businesses are critical to the U.S. economy; and
Whereas, Small and medium businesses employ half of all private-sector employees and generated between 60 to 80 percent of net new jobs annually over the past decade; and,
Whereas, In Michigan, 822,000 small and medium-sized businesses, represent 98.4 percent of Michigan's businesses and employ 51.5 percent of Michigan's non-farm private sector workforce; and,
Whereas, Small and medium businesses are increasingly working together to find sales opportunities for their products and services, to acquire critical services like financing, health property and other forms of insurance, logistics and accounting; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim June 27, 2007 as Small & Medium Business Day in Michigan and I encourage citizens to do business with small and medium businesses and to recognize the important role that they play in our state's economy.
