Whereas, Metro Detroit Youth Day was developed in 1982 in an effort to build better relationships between the community and the private sector, and to bring together area youngsters from all walks of life for a day of fun and activities; and,
Whereas, Metro Detroit Youth Day provides an opportunity for young people to participate in constructive activities outside their immediate home areas, working with other youngsters and numerous volunteers; and,
Whereas, No event could be more deserving of our support and participation than one dedicated to the young people who represent the nation's greatest resource and who, in the years ahead, will assume the responsibility for the advancement of our society; and,
Whereas, Our youth need our guidance, inspiration, and encouragement to develop the qualities of character essential for future leadership; and,
Whereas, To achieve this objective we must demonstrate our partnership with our youth, our understanding of their hopes and aspirations and our sincere willingness to help prepare them for the responsibilities and opportunities that await them; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim July 11, 2007, as Metro Detroit Youth Day in Michigan.
