Whereas , Elks lodges across the state will sponsor an observance during the week of May 4, in tribute to the junior citizens of their communities; and,

Whereas , This event is deserving of our support and participation and is dedicated to the young people who represent the nation's greatest resource and who, in the years ahead, will assume the responsibility for the advancement of our free society; and,

Whereas , Our young people need guidance, inspiration and encouragement, in order to develop qualities of character essential for personal development and leadership; and,

Whereas , To nurture our youth we must partner with them to show an understanding of their hopes and aspirations, and demonstrate a sincere willingness to help prepare them in every way for the responsibility and opportunities of citizenship; and now therefore be it,

Resolved , That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of May 4, 2008, as Youth Week in Michigan.
