Whereas , Habitat for Humanity has designated the week of May 4-10, 2008, as National Women Build Week, to highlight the efforts of the Women Build program which brings women from all walks of life together to learn construction skills and to use those skills to help solve the issue of poverty housing; and,
Whereas , More than 12 million U.S. children live in poverty and this initiative creates awareness of opportunities for to help parents provide warm, safe homes for their children and solve poverty housing; and,
Whereas , Eleven Habitat for Humanity affiliates serving the state of Michigan are joining more than 150 national Habitat for Humanity affiliates during National Women Build Week, uniting more than 4,000 women volunteers on Women Build sites across the country; and,
Whereas , This initiative helps provide simple, decent, affordable housing through joint efforts between Habitat partner families, volunteers, sponsors, community organizations, and business and government leaders; and now therefore be it,
Resolved , That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of May 4, 2008, as Women Build Week in Michigan.
