National Governors Association Day

Whereas , In 1908, President Theodore Roosevelt hosted the first meeting of the nation's governors at the White House to discuss conserving America's natural resources; and,

Whereas , Governors decided to form an association through which they could come together in a bipartisan manner to discuss mutual concerns; and,

Whereas , One hundred years later, the National Governors Association serves as the collective voice of the 55 governors of states, commonwealths and territories; and,

Whereas , Throughout history, governors have leveraged the organization's strengths to demonstrate state leadership on diverse issues and have played a key role in shaping public policy, and developing solutions to America's most pressing challenges; and,

Whereas , The National Governors Association is celebrating 100 years of gubernatorial leadership:  honoring the past, celebrating the present and embracing the future; and now therefore be it,

Resolved , That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 15, 2008, as National Governors Association Day.
