Amusement Ride Safety Week

Whereas , More than forty million people annually attend Michigan's fairs, festivals, amusement parks, fun centers and water parks; and,

Whereas , The Michigan Carnival-Amusement Safety Board was created under Public Act 225 of 1966, making Michigan a leader in ride safety, the inspection and registration of amusement rides, and overseeing the operation of approximately 200 carnival/amusement companies and 900 carnival rides; and,

Whereas , The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth's Bureau of Commercial Services staff perform inspections of traveling shows which operate in Michigan, as well as amusement parks and other fixed locations with rides, to assure compliance with the act and the rules promulgated and protect citizens; and,

Whereas , Michigan regularly participates in national safety education and outreach programs; and,

Whereas , Michigan licenses specially commissioned ride inspectors and regulates training of the ride operators; and,

 

Whereas , The safe enjoyment of amusement rides is an important part of Michigan's tourism industry, helping to add millions of dollars to our economy; and now therefore be it,

Resolved , That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of May 25, 2008, as Amusement Ride Safety Week in Michigan.
