Whereas, The number of people receiving services from Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) represent nearly 25 percent of the total population of Michigan; and,
Whereas, HMOs deliver high quality and comprehensive health care services, focusing on preventive services such as well-child, immunizations, prenatal care, and many other screening and health promotion services and have the capability of meeting the health care needs of Michigan's employers and purchasers; and,
Whereas, HMOs demonstrated their commitment to innovation, quality, and collaboration in the delivery of services as noted in the national rankings by the National Committee on Quality Assurance and are consistently among the top 50 health plans nationally for all product lines; and,
Whereas, The members of the Michigan Association of Health Plans continues to implement the "Philosophy of Care," encouraging open and total communication between patient and physicians as to treatment options; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of July 27, 2008, as Health Maintenance Organizations Week in Michigan, and I encourage all citizens to recognize the important role that HMOs play in the delivery of our state's health care.
