Aging in Place Week

Whereas , The National Aging in Place Council (NAIPC) was founded on the belief that while an overwhelming majority of older Americans want to remain in their homes for as long as possible they lack the awareness of home and community-based services that make independent living possible; and,

Whereas , NAIPC seeks to promote early planning for future healthcare and housing needs of older citizens so as to facilitate enjoyable years later in life; and,

Whereas , NAIPC has created a national forum for individuals from the aging, healthcare, financial services, legal, design, and building sectors to work together to help meet the needs of our growing aging population so they can continue living in the housing of their choice; and,

Whereas, Aging in Place Week offers educational activities for seniors that highlight home and community-based products and services - including healthcare, transportation, and housing - to enable them to successfully age in place and enjoy independent living; and now therefore be it,

Resolved , That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of October 13, 2008, as Aging in Place Week in Michigan.
