, American Archives Month is a collaborative effort by professional organizations and repositories around the nation to highlight the importance of preserving our historical legacy; and,

, In the course of daily life, individuals, organizations, and governments create and keep information about their activities; and,
Whereas
, Archivists are professionals who assess, collect, organize, preserve, and maintain control of records that have "enduring value as reliable memories of the past, and they help people find and understand the information they need in those records"; and,
Whereas
, Archivists play an important role in allowing us to share our history and embrace our heritage through these archived documents; and now therefore be it,
Resolved
, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim October 2008 as American Archives Month in Michigan.
