Whereas , Each and every citizen of Michigan belongs to a family with traditions and heritage that help determine who we are and where we come from; and,
Whereas , Family history research is among the most popular hobbies in our state and nation, with tens of millions of our fellow citizens actively researching their family histories and sharing family stories; and,
Whereas , Michigan's many libraries, archives, and museums provide a rich repository of information about our ancestors and their lives; and,
Whereas , The citizens of Michigan should be encouraged to gather and appreciate family lore, customs, and traditions of their ancestors and to appreciate the richness of the lives of the lives of their ancestors; and,
Whereas , It is right to explore the importance of the individual within the fabric of Michigan's cultural heritage and to recognize our role as part of the larger Michigan family; and now therefore be it,
Resolved , That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim October 2008 as Family History Month and encourage all of our citizens to actively research and share their unique family histories and to participate in Family History Month activities.
