Whereas, Military service men and women from our volunteer force stand always
prepared to make the sacrifices required to preserve our way of life and the
safety of the citizens of out Nation and State; and,
Whereas, The Marines and sailors of Company C, 1st Battalion, 24th Marines of
Lansing, Michigan, were trained and mobilized in support of Operation Enduring
Freedom and Iraqi Freedom from February to November 2003;
Whereas, Company C deployed to combat in Iraq from March to May, securing over
a dozen Forward Arming and Refueling Points for assault aircraft throughout
Iraq, helping bring a swift conclusion to the major combat operations; and,
Whereas, The Marines and sailors of Company C executed hundreds of convoy security
missions, protecting US military personnel and vehicles throughout the country
of Iraq from enemy soldiers and other hostile forces; and,
Whereas, The Marines and sailors of Company C executed the follow-on mission
of Force Protection for the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters at Camp
Commando, Kuwait, from June to October; and,
Whereas, Company C executed its missions so successfully that it was recommended
for, as a member of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, a Presidential Unit
Citation; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan,
do hereby proclaim November 10, 2003, as Company C, 1st Battalion, 24th Marine
Regiment Day in Michigan, and I urge all citizens to recognize the contributions
made by Company C and the citizen soldiers of all of our reserve forces.
