Whereas, Water is a basic and essential need of living things, and upon which
the health, comfort and standard of living for all people depends; and,
Whereas, Michigan is blessed with nearly 40,000 square miles of Great Lakes
water, 11,000 inland lakes, and 36,000 miles of rivers and streams; and,
Whereas, Preserving and protecting this precious resource is of the utmost
importance to the citizens of Michigan as responsible stewards of the environment;
and,
Whereas, The Michigan Section of the American Water Works Association and the
Michigan Water Environment Association are observing Water Quality Awareness
Week during the first week in May to call attention to water as a limited natural
resource and to promote increased consciousness about protection of this resource;
and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan,
do hereby proclaim the week of May 2, 2004 as Water Quality Awareness Week in
Michigan, and I encourage all citizens to become personally involved in the
conservation of water and to recognize the value and importance of our water
resources.
