Cancer Survivors Day

Whereas, Today, 8,900,000 Americans are cancer survivors, thanks to advances in early cancer detection, treatment and research; and,

Whereas, Over 45,800 new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in Michigan this year; and,

Whereas, The Great State of Michigan has an active, productive cancer survivor population, demonstrating that a cancer diagnosis is no longer an automatic death sentence; and,

Whereas, William Beaumont Hospital, Troy, celebrates life on Sunday, June 1, 2003 at the 16th Annual Celebration of Life picnic; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim June 1, 2003, as Cancer Survivors Day in Michigan.
