Michigan Transportation Week

Whereas, The improvement, protection and preservation of Michigan’s highways, roads and streets, airports, railroads, public transportation systems, lake ports, bicycle paths, and walking trails will enhance our ability to deliver the products of our state’s businesses, farms and factories, as well as our ability to live, work, and travel wherever we choose; and,

Whereas, Transportation is more vital to building Michigan’s economy than ever before; and,

Whereas, A diverse workforce of thousands of Michigan citizens work in the transportation field, including workers in automobile factories and supplier firms, employees of public transit systems and airlines, and the men and women who design, build, and operate our highways and other transportation systems; and,

Whereas, transportation workers pledge to secure and protect our critical infrastructure from any threats, foreign or domestic, with coordinated emergency response plans in every community and at the state level; and,

Whereas, Michigan Transportation Week is an opportunity for all citizens to recognize the importance of maintaining and improving all of our transportation modes for the people and economy of our Great Lakes State; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of May 11, 2003, as Transportation Week in Michigan.
