World Laughter Day

Whereas, Laughter clubs and therapeutic laughter programs are in affiliation with the World Laughter Tour, Inc., headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, and the Laughter Club International, headquartered in Mumbai, India; and,

Whereas, Kristine McPeak, a business owner and Certified Laughter Leader living in Michigan, has been organizing efforts which recognize the value of laughter; and,

Whereas, The mission of World Laughter Tour, Inc., is to lead the world to health, happiness and peace through laughter; and,

Whereas, Laughter is well known as “the best medicine;” and,

Whereas, The positive power of laughter has been well documented by modern scientific methods; and,

Whereas, Laughter is a free and natural expression of the joyful human spirit and promotes good health, improves morale and increases productivity at work, facilitates the healing of illness, melts away stress, works wonders to help students in the classroom, is a hallmark of a healthy family life, and promotes widespread harmony; and,

Whereas, On World Laughter Day, all citizens are encouraged and invited to set their cares and differences aside and engage in good-hearted acts of laughing out loud, smiles, silliness, giggles, clowning, chuckles, guffaws, titters, grins and happy foolishness in the spirit of health, peace and joy; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 4, 2003, as World Laughter Day in Michigan.
