Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month

Whereas, Over eighty thousand women will be diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer this year alone, the fourth largest cancer killer of women in the United States; and,

Whereas, The good health and well-being of the women of Michigan are enhanced as a direct result of efforts to spread awareness about gynecologic cancers; and,

Whereas, It is incumbent upon the citizens of Michigan to work together as people and as a state to increase research into understanding the causes and finding effective screening and prevention strategies, and into developing improved therapies for gynecologic cancers; and,

Whereas, Michigan is pleased to join in recognizing and applauding the valuable role which families and advocates of gynecologic cancer victims play in helping our medical community to advance the fight against these diseases; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim September, 2003, as Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month.
