Whereas, The National Alliance For Youth Sports was founded in 1981 in West
Palm Beach, Florida, with the goal of improving out-of-school sports programs
for the more than 20 million youth participants in America; and
Whereas, In addition to promoting the value and importance of sports and physical
activities in the physical, emotional, social and mental development of the
youth of America, the Alliance seeks to make the sports experience safe, fun
and healthy for all children; and
Whereas, The Alliance offers skill-development programs for young athletes
that provide them with a positive introduction to sports; and
Whereas, This month offers an important opportunity to spread the word to all
residents of Michigan so they may shape and influence the lives of children
who participate in youth sports; and now therefore be it
Resolved, that I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan,
do hereby proclaim September, 2003 as Youth Sports Month, and encourage all
citizens of Michigan to acknowledge and participate in after school youth sports
programs.
