Intergeneration Day

Whereas, The Fourth Annual Intergeneration Day will take place on October 5, 2003, culminating Intergeneration Activities Week, starting on September 29, 2003; and,

Whereas, There are few opportunities for meaningful age-integrated relationships, with children in childcare or schools, adults in the workplace, and older adults in care centers and senior living residences; and,

Whereas, Individual, family and community success will rise through an ongoing effort to relate and share ideas, values and experiences with people from different generations; and,

Whereas, Our youth and elders benefit from contact with each other as isolation and generational fear are reduced; and,

Whereas, Culture, history, traditions and values are transferred from one generation to the next when meaningful contact exists between young and old; and,

Whereas, Intergeneration Day brings together people of different backgrounds and ages together in celebration of the many generations of our citizens; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim October 5, 2003, as Intergeneration Day in Michigan and I encourage all citizens to reach out to people of other generations through letters, phone calls, and activities in their communities.
