Martial Arts Day

Whereas, Martial arts introduces the values of self control, self discipline, personal defense and physical fitness for every age, race, gender, and ability level; and,

 

Whereas, Martial arts provides a powerful foundation for emotional development and success skills that last a lifetime; and,

 

Whereas, The participation in martial arts builds strength, character, focus, flexibility and coordination while enhancing performance in other sports, in the workplace, at home and in school; and,

 

Whereas, Martial arts enhances self-esteem, goal setting abilities, anger management and the skills of non-violent conflict resolution in people of all ages, helping them to become more productive and healthy people; and,

 

Whereas, On National Martial Arts Day, martial arts schools across the United States partner with The National Association of Professional Martial Artists to heighten the visibility of the arts and encourage participation at the grassroots level; and now therefore be it,

 

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim October 16, 2004, as Martial Arts Day in Michigan.
